Weekly Radiohead Fix: Paranoid Android (Live at Les Eurockéennes de Belfort, 4 August 1997)

This column is devoted to those emo, whale music-making hipsters from Oxfordshire. Songs, quotes and rants of complete obsession - all for the love of Thom, Jonny, Ed, Colin and Phil... and Nigel (and Stanley).

The first Radiohead clip i ever watched. My favourite bits:
  • Any time Jonny takes the lead guitar line - just an astonishing sound!
  • Ed having a sit down and a singalong during the 'rain down' section
  • Thom spazzing out towards the end, especially his lil jump!

This was my first insight into how each band member contributed to the overall sound. I remember being so blown away by how sophisticated the record sounded, yet how simply the elements seemed to come together on stage.

This performance was part of their tour following the release of OK Computer, portraying a band that had achieved critical success with The Bends and were experiencing great pressure to match the quality of that record. Little did the band (or the crowd at that festival) know that the album would one of the most critically acclaimed of that decade and one of the most treasured in rock music.
